Linen Hem Finishing

By Jahanara, 31 July, 2021
Notes

For technical specs, see my <a href="https://www.weavolution.com/project/jahanara/linen-hem-lining">Weavolution Project Page.</a>
I wove this plain linen band to finish the cut hems on my blue handwoven Sasanian Robe. This project was inspired when I discovered a note<a href="https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/70021242?exhibitionId=%7B60853040-AE7E-4162-8FA7-525505D6B633%7D&oid=70021242&pg=4&rpp=60&pos=185&ft=&fbclid=IwAR04vWJLAFIzaDRb7e7_Yq8ogk7EdhuYErwgHWTCiSCqO0A0Rgg-65ORk7s">The Metropolitian Museum's analysis of a 7th C Persian Riding Coat. </a>.
This description of the hem finishing technique inspired me to weave my own linen for this purpose. Weaving the band was very fun, because I  knew the end result was going to give my handwoven robe a final touch of authenticity.
